End of summer

(Having issues with computer access so I'm a little behind on the blog...)

Summer seems much longer when you are a child, but always went by too fast! These days summer is over in the blink of an eye with never enought time to do all you want to. My latest piece is about the hurried days we live. Underneath the layers I am trying to capture the small things that if we are lucky, we don't miss. The beginning stages of this idea should be posted by the end of the week.

Though I love the green, long days of summer I've always felt a stronger kinship with the transitional seasons of fall and spring. My work entitled "Fire" posted on this blog was inspired by the colors and weather of autumn; I hope you feel the leaves crunching, the wind gusting and the cool nights as you look. Enjoy!

The View

I love the ocean - especially in the pacific northwest. Its many moods and colors always affect me. In my latest painting (The View) I tried to capture the movement and emotion through line and layers; the colors slowly transitioning from the close water through the horizon to the sky above. Take a moment to look and feel the calming effect of the sea.

Wind, sun, and huckleberries

I spent the weekend camping in the mountains of southern Washington with my family. It was great to just be a family without the distractions of daily life. The weather was just right, not too cold or hot and it didn't rain.

There was one perfect moment when the sun filtered through the firs; the wind stirred the grasses and huckleberry bushes. My son, who's three, was picking berries ("buckleberries") while the wind made his hair dance lightly. He was tromping through the underbrush picking the occasional berry and carrying on a constant monologue about the various animals he was hunting; elk, bears, lions, etc.

I sat nearby picking my share of berries and enjoyed the sound of his imagination; the light, the wind, the purple-black color of the berries, and the moment of peace in a too-busy life.
